The history of California Asian Peace Officers Association reaches back to 1968, following the shooting death, in the line of duty, of Los Angeles Police Officer Gary Murakami. This tragic event served to bring together a group of Asian Law Enforcement officers who soon discovered their common interests and needs. They foresaw the need for a fraternal organization to support the small, but growing number of Asians in law enforcement profession and founded what is now known as the California Asian Peace Officers Association. Our organization currently consists of over 100 law enforcement professionals, spanning a myriad of federal, state, and local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies.

CAPOA is most proud of its annual scholarship program which awards deserving young college bound high school seniors with financial assistance. Funded strictly by donations, CAPOA scholarships are awarded each year to young men and women of character and accomplishment. CAPOA is committed to the belief that the positive interaction this program generates between these leaders of tomorrow and law enforcement officers is an investment in the future.
